I had someone call last night who booked 6 cabins on a cruise leaving this Saturday through an online booking website. She went to do her online check in to print her tickets to find that her reservation had been cancelled. The ship is sold out and now 1 of the cabins is on a wait list. Cruise line and booking website claim it is the other's fault. Bottom line is client has paid for trip, asked for time off, didn't purchase insurance and is now out of a vacation!!
Booking through a "live" travel agent would not have cost her more, would have monitored the booking to make sure nothing like this happened, would have fought on her behalf, and she would be going on vacation this weekend with her family.
Moral - Think twice before you spend thousands of dollars online believing you are saving money doing it yourself.
